Girl Power Series: Part 1

Meet EJ. She loves to read and eat chocolate ice cream. Her birthday shot by her aunt made our hearts smile. Her light shines so bright, for this moment she has not a care in the world. How can we allow our girls to feel this way through their whole life? How do we empower them, inspire them and give them the confidence to conquer the world? How do we remind them to dance freely, to love openly and to give their gifts without sacrificing their values?

We will be exploring ideas around raising strong daughters in a series called Girl Power. Even if you are not raising daughters yourself, you ARE a daughter. These are lessons that we can all remind ourselves when the mom-shaming attitudes creep in.

Powerful girls grow up feeling secure in themselves. They learn to take action, making positive choices about their own lives and doing positive things for others. They think critically about the world around them. They express their feelings and acknowledge the feelings and thoughts of others in caring ways.

Powerful girls feel good about themselves and grow up with a “can-do” attitude. Of course, strong girls may (like all of us) have times of insecurity and self-doubt, I mean who doesn't have these thoughts from time to time. However for powerful girls these feelings aren’t paralyzing because they have learned to work through their problems. Powerful girls will grow up to lead full, valuable lives.

We would love to hear from you about the ways you are raising powerful girls in your household!
